I'm using a 17" Sony 200ES and been happy with it for a couple years now. Although I am having this problem with my screen shifting to the left or right and then I have to correct the centering, but this is recent.

NECs seem to be reliable since my family has been using a 15" MultiSync for 6 years and it still works pretty well.

My girlfriend has an NEC. I'm really not impressed with it. The original one was blurry, and then it failed. The refurb they sent her is also blurry, with some color problems.

My ten year old NEC 5FG still delivers a great image and its been used quite extensively. I've been very happy with it. I don't know anything about the quality of their current products.

19" Monitor

Hey

I recommend the NEC MultiSync FP955

Take a look around the various newsgroups, its the one to choose. Mistubushi and NEC now have the same brand of monitors, but the FP955 is really nice!

I would stay away from SONY, since they tend to die in a few years.

btw, my monitor rocks at 1600x1200x85HZ, and it goes all the way to 2048x#@!@ I forget the number but my video can't handle it.

You also need to get a really good graphics card, you should wait for the new Matrox card - which according to the Matrox Sales staff will be released in another month or two.

Guru keeps pushing LG, but of course if you don't live in Finland or Korea you're SOL getting one for less than a mint.

Sony have nice display, but POOR quality control. You are flipping a coin as to whether your monitor shows up looking like crap.

I'm probably going to go with either an NEC or a Cornerstone, I know Cornerstone's quality from WAY back when I was working with scanned documents on massive 25" portrait-orientation document monitors.

NEC's quality DOES seem to have suffered as of late. I saw a 25" monitor of theirs recently and was simply not impressed... although their 950FE+ or 950FP are supposed to be very nice.

Viewsonics are nice as well, the PF790 generates a lot of complaints from people who can't work professional-quality OSC's to adjust the picture - the color saturation can be off in the center or the corners and that's a built-in adjustment.

I highly DON'T recommend an LCD display right now, I have been very disappointed by even the best LCD's available today.

Gurm,
I agree with you about Sony's quality control, but it seems that they are more careful with their professional lines. I'm not trying to push Sony per se, but I will push Sony over NEC.

Still loving my Iiyama VM Pro450 here, despite giving it a sturdy headbutt last week

Any Sony fans used anything besides Sony? And anyone else for that matter used Iiyama against others? I have only ever bought one good monitor (yes, my Iiyama ), so can't compare it with anything worthwhile - but no real faults. 1600x1200@85Hz is good for me, dropping to 1280x1024@100Hz when I'm not on detail/hard work.

Lucky G? Am I missing something here? Is that a drug or summat?

Paul. xx

Well, other than the NEC, Hitachi, and ViewSonics I mentioned..
Lots and lots of Sony. I worked in a computer lab for a while, and saw hundreds of Sony monitors. Some of them were really showing their age, but many could have been better if they weren't basic models and had more sophisticated controls.

I had a MAG monitor for a while. No more of those for me.

I have owned an Iiyama Vision Pro 17 and loved it... until it was banged against a door frame so hard (by a friend) that it warped the grill and rendered all images in a rainbow effect. Still was a great monitor tho.
Also have had a Viewsonic but it's image quality turned to crap after 3 years of use. A Samsung 4ne (still looks fine dispite it's age and low res/refresh). An NEC, but I sold it cause it was not acceptible after a year of use. A PB POS, that's some 9 years old(hey it was cheap and it was an emergency!), looks like shit but at least it runs (can only do 8x6 now tho with bad pin cushioning). A CTX (hmmm can't remember it's M#) 17" with 200mHz bandwidth... worked good for about 5 years and then it puttered out.

Which lead me to my Cornerstone 50/95 21".

Dispite the fact that one died a sudden death, Jim (GoSharks) supplied me with a replacement for absolutely FREE despite the fact it was already out of warranty by 2 years! (Thx again Jim! It had as near perfect convergence as can be had til that painful moment.

I have professionally installed, used and serviced many a monitor/video projector in my time to the likes of Barco, NEC, GE (Lightvalve's), Sony and Mitsubishi.

Well I could compare the Iiyama 22 " against a similarly specced (O.K. it was 21") Eizo that carries a MUCH higher price (as do the Sony with IMHO even worse quality) and the Iiyama beat it quite easily. No need to say I've got the Iiyama VisionMaster Pro 510 (1600x1200x100@32Bit is nice) and not the Eizo. Although the Eizo would be a good monitor as well if you've got the money to spend.

It's all about Cornerstone (Greebe setup the links). I've seen dozens of screens and the Cornerstone is by far the best. Even after having it all summer my friends still walk up and gawk at the monitor while I'm playing. And they're not that much money wise either.
