XP or MP, they are the same thing. The core is the same.

I like to think that it is because Intel wanted something that could scale to 'impressive' GHz numbers rather than future-proofing it. That's what the cynical side of me thinks.

Umm... isn't future-proofing one of the reasons why a chip should be able to scale to impressive new (X)Hz numbers with as little change as possible?

I guess making it as adaptable as lego would help too.. but I know too many people who are all thumbs to make it practical.

On average, intel develops new cpu cores roughly every 4 years,so i'm thinking that was the main reason why the p4 has such a long pipeline in the first place.

Besides i'm almost sure that AMD will also have to resort to that in order to be able to reach very high clock speeds on their upcoming sledgehammer series.
        note to self...

Assumption is the mother of all f***ups....

        Primary system :
P4 2.8 ghz,1 gig DDR pc 2700(kingston),Radeon 9700(stock clock),audigy platinum and scsi all the way...
