    I think i have decided on the machine... the AMD XP have hit town, so i'll be putting together a ;

    AMD1600XP
    Gigabyte "GA-7DXR" MOBO [with built in RAID Promise ATA100 + Creative CT-5880 sound chip & AC97 codec]
    512 SIngle DIMM DDR RAM [barnd name starts with N or something - supposed to be the best !!!]

    so what do u think ? should i just spill it our for the 1800XP, the reviews do not seem to justify the 50% extra cost !?

    and just out of curiosity what kind of digital media authoring [Photoshop + Illustrator + Premiere + After effects] performance improvment should i expect over my existing system ! ?

    Also, would the thr promise RAID controller be safe to use ? or should one get a separate Promise card ?

      Now that someone mentioned about Dual Cpus. The Athlon MPs are a good ideas as the software (Adobe) you will be using will be able to take advantage i think.

      From what i know, Intel are only offer of DualCpus are PIII based which cant hold a light to the AthlonMPs
