That pic you posted wasn't a live action in game screen. It was a higher resolution setup movie screen.

The movies you posted are more like what I expected, looks good still, but nothing like your first shot.

The other shots you just posted in your edit also look good, but again are not like the movies they use in their opening scenes and the high resolution pre rendered end scenes.....getting good though

Those were still Beta stage screenshots. The rumor from the Taiwanese that played the DOA3 arcade demos is that ingame will look like that.

Can't wait to get my Xbox connected to my HDTV with 5.1 DD to go with it.

            PS2- avoid like the plague

now contrary to the sales figures the PS2 is the biggest pile of rubbish ever turned out. it cannot boast any decent games which cannot be found on systems elsewhere and the graphics are no better than the dreamcast. If you have the money get an XBOX it will be the best next gen console, however it is not aimed at kids. the gamecube is the best choice for kids but its a bit pricey.
at present the best console out there is the dreamcast as it has a back catalogue of top quality titles(project gotham pictured above is an xbox rehash of MSR on the dreamcast). beware however that production of the console is stopping at the end of the year and fewer places are stocking the hardware and software. games to look out for are MSR, Sonic adventure 1 and 2, virtua tennis 1 and 2, shenmue, jet set or jet grind radio, soul calibre 1 and 2, phantasy star online 1 and version 2 add on, quake 3, unreal tournament. there is pleanty of choice for both you and the kids there. dont buy a PS1 as they are now very dated. N64 is a real possibility as its great for the kids. for my money the choice is between the dreamcast and the N64 but as the dreamcast has a huge back catalogue of varied games i would plump for that although the N64 has more kids games.
is a flower best picked in it's prime or greater withered away by time?

Can't boast any decent games? Well that is entirely subjective and depends on your taste in games. Can you say Gran Turismo 3? I knew you could. I'm going to buy one just to get that game.

Each gaming console has at least a few very good games that you won't be able to get anywhere else. If you're not into certain types of games, though, then maybe you won't think the games are good....

I'd say the N64 has 007 and Perfect Dark going for it, not to mention the Pokemon routine if that's your thing.

The PS2 has the Gran Turismo series of games available, for starters. And I hear Madden football is supposed to be the best, although I'm not a football fan.

Haven't played enough Dreamcast to say anything about it other than the graphics look pretty decent.

For kids, though, I'd really consider something such as a GBA or Gamebody. Not sure how the kids are these days, but I loved taking my Gameboy with me on trips, etc. I didn't have a console at home, although some of my friends did. I'd think that kids would still like to take their games with them.......

PS2 is a crock. It's been out for well over a year, and there are JUST NOW starting to be games worth playing on it.

My friends were all "ooh, ahh, you must see this!".

Summoner? Can you say "Baldur's Gate was good, this is shit!"?

Fighting Games? Sorry, Sega just wins there, hands down, all the time. Always have, probably always will...

Sports Games? Well, y'all should know by know how much I _****ING_HATE_ sports, so that's a non-issue.

                Shooters? Nothing really good yet.

                Platformers? Uh-uh.

And now, a year later... the same damn thing. Final Fantasy X is coming, which might actually prompt me to BUY one of these overpriced pieces of junk. In the meantime... I have my PC, and my backlog of PS1 RPG's to go through.

GT3 is the only excellent PS2 game that is available now. However, I don't think you can justify buying a PS2 just because you like one game.

NOT TRUE!!! There is now a second game on the PS2 that is AWESOME!!!

                    Devil May Cry

That game is all about being cool =)

Plus all the Final Fantasy games come out for the PC now. At least 7 and 8 did, never checked for 9, but I think I saw it.

yes GT3 is a very good , in fact exellent game. but it is basically a poor extention of GT2 on the PS1 which is why some call it GT2.5. it has better graphics but fewer cars and after completing 1 and 2 it gets a bit boring. in any case you can get a bllem conversion of gt2 on the dreamcast with better graphics than the ps1 if thats your thing.
personally i own a ps1 and a dreamcast. i bought a ps2 and took it back after a week because the only game worth considering it for was gt3 which i was bored of in a week.
the dreamcast has about 20 must have titles which i can list if you want and is dirt cheap and the graphics are pretty much the same as the dreamcast.
i will save my money for an xbox in march next year(we have to wait till then in england) by which time the ps2 will be suffering a lingering death.
back to the subject of what console to buy the kids i'd say for kids only a N64 but for kids/teenagers/adults a dreamcast.

its all very good talking about games which will come out in the future but not much good for a disgruntled gamer who has just spent a whole lot on a console and has hardly any good games to play only to find that in 6 months developers are abandoning his console because it is a bitch to develope for and is underpowered compared to the compitition. this leaves you with a rather expensive silicon doorstop!
but hey it can play dvd's out of focus like no other dvd player on earth so it musy be worth it!

The people I've talked with about the PS2 DVD basically all say the same thing....it works, and it's decent, but a regular player is better. Having not watched a DVD on it myself, I couldn't say.

I can't justify buying a PS2 just because I like one game...but who said anything about ME buying one? I might get one bought for me, though.

On the other hand, I never get tired of racing games. See, I don't play the computer much....that gets real boring real fast, I prefer to play against others which is always entertaining regardless of the game.

If they go down in price I'd consider buying one myself.....

I'm given to understand that DVD's played back on nVidia cards look similarly poor, just so you don't feel alone.
