I just picked me up a SB Audigy Platinum and installed it on a fresh Windows XP Pro installation. Great sound card, IMO. I know there are better out there, but for general multimedia I doubt there is much better. Anyway, being the carzed system performance geek I am, I was digging around and found that my computer started up with 84 MB RAM used, when my normal footprint is 50-65 MB RAM.
I popped up Task Manager and found that the Creative software takes up 14.4 MB RAM on startup, not including the 12 MB RAM taken for the sound fonts!!! And that with all startup items disable except the RemoteCenter. Good googley moogley!!! I always wondered why people say the SB drivers are crap. 26 MB RAM gone just like that...
It's a good damn thing RAM is cheap and I'm pack'n 512 MB or I'd be really pissed off.
