You never know whats lurking behind the corner...

I actualy found a controllpanel utility to controll IBM's Travelstar series power features on the fly...

Now I can set it for maximum performance when I have the AC, and on low power consumption when I am on the run.

If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.
