That poll doesn't mean anything since Leadtek is the only one that has been announced to use the "better" filters. We'll have to wait for a few Murcers to get their hands on a Ti500 and see how it fairs.

The poll means even less since I doubt most of the voters had anything to compare it to.

Very true, Wombat! The ultimate test will be to see what Murcers have to say.

            Yeah yeah.

And when the original GF3 came out people were all saying "ooh it fixes the 2D problems!", and then it went into full production and the OEM's were like "oh, sorry - nvidia cards look blurry. tough shit!"

I'll believe it when I see it - which is to say NEVER, since no sorry-ass nShitty-haha card will make it into my machine anytime in the near future.

I mean, c'mon - the Kyro2 (pretty good) made my eyes hurt.

The ATI (very good) wasn't good enough.

And now someone has MAGICALLY overcome the intrinsic flaws of the nvidia chipset (and it IS intrinsically flawed, we have proven that in the past) to make it look as good as the G400 32MB DH Vanilla I'm using? No, I think not.

So in your opinion the Firingsquad reviewer was either lying or incompetent?

I have a local magazine here. Although this magazine (Mikrobitti) isn't exactly famous for it's correctness (It HAS lately become more newbie and gaming-oriented) they have done a review on the Leadtek WinFast Geforce3 Titanium 500 and (among other things) commented on it's 2D and 3D quality. One should note that this was a preproduction model of the card. Anyways, translated the text goes like this:

"The 2d image quality is at an acceptable level. But at large resolutions, the picture stays a little foggy. The quality is not bad, but one would expect more from the card. On another note, the 3d image is quite excellent. Especially the games using Quincunx antialiasing look tasty".

Read the firingsquad comments for that article. Seems that there are a few users who say that the Leadteak Ti500 is much better than all other nVidia offereings, but not up to Matrox 2d standards yet...

Interesting. I wonder what the final word will be?

Yeah, I think the firingsquad staffer was on crack.

I mean, MANY MANY people, even competent computer professionals, even MURCers, just can't tell the difference. How many times has some supposedly intelligent fella come in here and said "My GF2 Ultra is NICER in 2D than my G400!" - the answer, before you ask, is a lot.

But they're always high on crack, or blind, or just refusing to see 2D differences.

Well I've seen users with such blurred displays it gives you a headache looking at it within a few minutes. Makes you wonder why they aren't blind or they've already got poor eye sight and never had it tested.

Hello to all. As far as I know, regular GF3 has BAD 2D image quality except for Gainward cards. They slightly modified Nvidia design by putting some RF filters, resulting much clearer picture. (better than Matrox? probably no. But much better than before, somewhere in ATI range). Latest Geforce series named Titanium has similiar modification in design. In short: any new Titanium has very good 2D, any "old" GF3 except Gainward has bad 2D.

Titanium ONLY has that design if the manufacturer chooses to use it. Gainward, Leadtek - those manufacturers may choose it. However, when Creative and Hercules get their hands on it... 100% reference board, BABY!

                            I've sold out too...

I picked up a Hercules GeForce 3 Ti500 yesterday and I must say it is unbelievable.

I borrowed my mates GF2 over the summer, and after a week I had my G400 back in the machine. I have a Sony CPD-G400 19” monitor and I usually run it at 1600*1200*32. This GF card will do that at 100Hz and it looks sweet.

If the big ‘M’ release a card better than this then ‘Oh baby!’. Until then I am more than happy.

Fantastic 3D speed and quality (Quake 3, 1600*1200 all settings to the max + Quincunx AA at 50FPS).

When I borrowed my mates GF2 the display just didn’t look as crisp. In my subjective opinion the 2D quality of this card is on a par. I have no complaints whatsoever!

Now I just need one of those Athlon XP chips
