Here are my system specs. I will describe the problem later.
Abit BP6 Dual celeron 400MHz not overclocked
2 dimms 64 Mbytes each, certified to run at 100Mhz
Maxtor 20gb HD 7200 Rpm Ata 33 IDE1 Master
Maxtor 10gb HD 5200 RPM ATA 33 IDE1 Slave
Standard CDrom drive on IDE2 Master
ATI 64 Vid card PCI
I did not include the nic card or audio card because the problem occurs even when these are unplugged.
The computer just freezes a bit after loging in win2k. If I do not login, the computer is fine. Also if you launch a bunch of background tasks on startup(they are running even before loging in) the computer does not freeze.
If i enter win2k in safe mode the computer is working fine. No problems. No freeze no nothing.
Now let me list what I tried so far and nothing worked.
1. Disable ACPI
2. Remove 1 processor and use only one of the two.
3. Install win98 , same thing freeze a bit after login
4. Install WinXP, did not finish installation, froze during the installation
5. Install Linux, froze during installation
6. Removed all HDs and CDroms and put in one that 100% works
7. Tried using HPT66 controller
8. Upgraded to latest motherboard Bios
9. Check motherboard using tufftest. I tested the diims and HDs. No problems occured.
10. Changed CAse and powersuply to a 300watt AMD and INTEL p4 certified.
11. A bunch of other things which I don't even remember.
The computer was running fine a few weeks ago.
Any ideas?? Could this be the video card's fault?? Is there a way I can change the safe mode startup to incrementally make it closer to the standard setup so i can figure out what is wrong?
Thanks
Efty
