Active Desktop in XP

I have toyed with the idea of making a desktop using 'Active Desktop' for a while now. I have put the J-Track satellite navigation thingie on and I haven't noticed a performance hit. Active desktop seems much less resource hungry than in 2K...

Has anyone made their own desktop using AD?

Anyone got any nice applets that they like to use?
