I currently use the old Sony MDR-V6. It's been discontined for some time, so it may be hard to find, but I've seen them for $70. Beats the crap out of the Sony MDR-V600 I had before. I think the MDR-7506 is the same as the MDR-V6 but is a newer model, so it may be easier to find, though it costs more. Check http://www.headwize.com, it's a great site about headphones.

I'm on my second pair of MDR-V6s. I use them for TV viewing in the bedroom. The closed ear feature was a necessity for this type of listening. Even still, I occasionally get the nudge from the wife to turn down the volume. I've felt these have been the best sounding, medium priced, closed ear phones for the last decade. As far as availability ... I thought I saw these still being sold at Fry's.

speaking of headphones, I have to use some really crappy somethingerother headphones to do my observations at school. Damn, after doing like 10 minutes of observations, my ears hurt like hell. The foams all been worn off after so much use and the speaker rests directly on the pinna and it's sharp as a mother f*cker. Sound bad too.

Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to bring my own....

Thanks for the info but it doesn't sound like its worth bothering.
