Can anyone recommend anywhere good for monitor repairs in the UK? I have a ViewSonic P817 21" monitor that seems to have had a nervous breakdown, no image, no onscreen display just a red status light (it's only ever been green or amber before). Of course it's just a couple of months out of warrenty.

ViewSonic's recommended repair outfit quoted me £150 + VAT and the cost of any extras that may be needed that do not fall inside the items covered in the quote!? Not being too financially sound at present I don't want to throw money away but then again don't want to loose the monitor and can't really afford to replace it

Hey, how about a step-by-step help to fix it yourself?

I am sure that there are a few here who could help you with it. I betcha that the transformer in it is gonzo!

Damn it Jim, I'm a biochemist not an engineer

I'm open to suggestions but I'm a bit ham fisted with electronics, hammer and a large screwdriver usually suffices

If you do the repair yourself would you mind posting a vid?

PS I don't know anything about electronics, so this is the most I can "contribute".

Yeah, I've been looking for something to submit to America's Funniest Home Videos..."Whoops! Looks like somebody forgot to discharge the flyback cap! Look at him fly across the room!"

Monitors can shock the crap out of you if you are not very careful. First thing I'd do is make absolutely sure you know how to discharge the thing before attempting anything else.
Also, I know this may sound over simplified but I have fixed 2 VCR's and one Monitor by opening it up and finding out that the fuse inside was blown. Just a thought...

That's what I use the large screwdriver for
