  • SB PCI128 on XP question

    The Sound Blaster product range has an audio upgrade solution – internal and external—for every setup. Don’t stop at stunning visuals. Redefine your audio experience with Sound Blaster.

    I don´t know if the released drivers are compatible with my soundcard. It´s a SB PCI128, no doubt, but it´s listed on my computer properties as having an Ensoniq Audio PCI chip, I think (see image). On the link above, you´ll notice that "other Ensoniq products" don´t need Creative´s drivers.

    As I´m on 56K, I didn´t download the drivers because it can be pointless.

    Can someone tell me what are the drivers I need (IF I need them)?

    You don't "need" to install drivers in XP because Creative gave a set of basic drivers to Microsoft for inclusion on the XP CD. These will be installed when XP or the card is installed. Nothing fancy, just enough to get the card to work.

    Quote from the Creative XP page;

    "Although Windows XP already includes built-in support for most Sound Blaster sound cards, Creative has further optimized the drivers for certain models to take full advantage of Microsoft’s next-generation operating system."

    After the basic drivers are installed by XP you're free to update them with the ones on Creatives site if you feel there is a feature you're missing.

      Thanks. I probably don´t need them, just want to squeeze the maximum quality and performance that I can, mostly for MP3 listening and for gaming.
