What about disabling the FDC in the BIOS? I don't remember how Windows handles that.

On my Asus P2B-F I can't disable the FDC because then Windows starts screaming murder about a missing FDC, followed by my LS-120 (IDE) being drive B:, and an imaginary drive A: sitting in device manager and everywhere else.
On my old Asus P2B I could disable the FDC and my LS-120 would be drive A:, no FDC in device manager.
Weird

I would still suspect that it's related to your shiney new 8500LE.
HP (the game) runs on the Unreal engine... Can you get UT to play correctly? The Welsh support two teams when it comes to rugby. Wales of course, and anyone else playing England

Jorden - it is HP the game. I'm told its not so hot, so it won't be a great loss, but its the principle that matters.
The FDC is disabled in the BIOS, and has been since I got my LS120 (some time ago).
I think I have UT somewhere - I'll check it out. I was suspicious of the 8500 too, but I haven't seen a single complaint about it with HP. However, when I run the 3dconfig, it offers software rendering as the prefered option, but I can (do) choose hardware. Software is the same but much slower.
BTW when I did re-enable the FDC in the BIOS, is was detected at IRQ6 (which was supposiedly free), but then everything else started to be redetected! wierd.
OJ - I'm using msconfig and have the absolute minimum running. I even close everything except explorer/systray, with no effect. I'll take a look at that util though - looks like a useful site.
Thanks again guys, Tony.
P.S. RTCW runs and looks great! As did Max Payne. I love making the soldiers do death-dives off castle turrets, and then stealing their weaponsLast edited by Fat Tone; 12 December 2001, 01:42.FT.
