  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Just recently bought Return to Castle Wolfenstein but unfortunately when i start the game it immediately jumps back to the desktop. All i get a chance to see is the wolf console and then a black screen for a few seconds. This also happens to Quake 3 and it does it in Safemode as well. Any one have any ideas. I am running it on Win2k, Radeon, ECS KS75a with the latest sis drivers and Omega 1.026a drivers (unfortunately i've never been able to install ANY of the official ATI drivers for this card). I have tried everything I can think of including wiping the drive clean and reinstalling Win2k. All in all a waste of a good weekend

If you can't install the default ATI drivers then I guess the card is just defective. Probably the official drivers won't recognize the card like Quake and Wolfenstein.

I think the card is ok (ish) because I have played Q3 on it in the past. I am not sure if this problem is related to the combination of drivers or lack of newer recent ones. However, I didnt usually have a problem with it in Win98 but their aint no way in hell I am going back down that route .

Are you sure your OpenGL drivers are installed?
DirectX needed is at least Dx6.0, so I think you're secure there

You probably don't have another videocard to test it with? Or another Radeon? Or know someone with a similar Radeon?

There are new Dell WinXP drivers out (v6.13.10.6006) that are for the Radeon7500Mobility.
Still you can take the OGL part of them out and copy it to the WinNT/system32 folder - most people on Rage3D reported the new OGL to fix problems and be faster (they're the same here speedwise with Q-III, but they also work on Win2k).
So if you've got OGL problems and run either Win2k or XP you might try these.

Well I finally gave up on this and have replaced my Radeon with my ole G400. So far so good. RTCW ran straight away. Looks like my girlfriend is getting my Radeon
