Onkyo DV-S555 DVD-player

Anyone know this model? I can get it for a reasonable price.
What about compatibility with (S)VCD, DVDRam and so on.
Is there a possibility to make it region-free (not that important to me)?

I knew that the main chips in this player are the same as in the Pioneer 444 and 545, but I've looked at those in comparision and the Onkyo really leaves a MUCH more solid impression quality-wise. Besides the Onkyo somehow sounded better with a MP3 CD (don't know if all parts are the same as the Pioneer, then of course this is not possible or more due to minor production deviations), so I think I will get it (for 860,- DM).

P.S.: While the Onkyo manual states "No VBR support", it still played a lame VBR mp3CD nearly without problems (it just displayed the track-lenghts wrong)

The only thing that I'd like to know now is the compatibility with DVD-RW (or those other standards, I'm really not up-to-date on this)
