Guess what the leaked drivers don't work either.
This is what I did. Uninstalled Norton system works and Norton firewall. Rebooted uninstalled Ati drivers, removed the inf files and cleaned out the registry settings. Rebooted. Pointed win2k towards the latest ati drivers when it prompted installed fine rebooted. Setup the display and refresh rates. Tried to re-install system works setup program falls over with a useless error message. Reboot and try again installer tries to carry on where it left off and hangs. Reboot again navigate to the nortons utilities directory and run setup from there this installs I reboot.
Run Nortons windoctor it hangs have to reboot becuase running anything like trying to uninstall nortons causes any error. Uninstall the latest Ati drivers Norton windoctor runs striaght away.
Back to the old drivers and everything is fine.
Unfortatley at rage3d the search facility is disabled.

Are you really sure you don't have a buggy card? There seems to be a bit of a problem with quality control of the Radeon8500 cards (esp. regarding memory), when looking at SEVERAL threads where users had (like you) problems that noone else has and just exchanging their card with another one helped to solve ALL problems.
I'd really say: if you can't even install and use in Windows the Win2k 6011 or/and 6018 drivers you might have a faulty card. I've installed them on three VERY different systems now (one i850 based, one VIA KT266A and one SIS735) and had no such problems as you describe.

        The PIT,

I'm with Indiana on this one.......
I've used the latest leaked drivers 6018 (WinXP Home Edition)
for a liltte while now (and 3286 before that) with ZERO problems.
I also use Norton SystemWorks 2002 and Norton Internet Security 2002 and have never had any difficulties as you describe.

The easy way to check that one is too install win2k on my spare drive stick nortons on then the new video drivers. If it's the card it should show up. I think it's more likely a software problem with something left on the machine from previous installs.

Well I got my spare harddisk and did a clean install of win2k stuck all the drivers on for the hardware and nortons and then installed the orginal drivers that came with the card. Uninstalled using the same procedure as before and then stuck on the new ones.
The result were as expected the new drivers installed fine and worked properly. The chances of finding whats bugging up my present win2k installtion is about zero.
So the I can do the following

            1) Ignore it since I don't game on win2k.

            2) Re-install win2k and start afresh.

            3) Upgrade to winxp over the top and hope this fixes it. Probably won't.

            4) Clean install of Xp sometime in the future after the first service pack and a bit of spare time.

At the moment it look likes option four as I've also got to re-install the now broken Mandrake 8.1.

One thing I've forgot to mention is speeddisk which started working again after the radeon was installed. Go and figure.

Funny you say that cos my Car is doing funny things.

                1) Battery goes flat for no reason.

                2) Rain comes in through sunroof. Can't see anything wrong with the seals and it stops doing it a day and half later. Still chucking it down.

                3) Rear passenger wheel gets hot as if either that handbreake got stuck on or the bearings are getting iffy. Drive home again and the wheel is cool as anything.

                  oh my...

ps, witch doctors don't dress the same as they used to

maybe I can help on the sunroof issue. Sometimes the rubber seals look ok, it is just that they get a bit dry. From a auto supply store, get your self some silicone emulsion. It should come in a small bottle with a lid that has a big cue tip on it. The stuff is a white goo. wipe it liberally on all the seals (Door and trunk seals too,its good for em) and rub off the excess so it doesnt look bad. It will not be white for long, so don't worry about that. This of course assumes that you have rubber seals. I work at a GM dealership and see this sort of thing alot. Infact I need to do mine, im just too lazy to do it as it only happens in the biggest, longest monsoon type rains.

good luck on the car and the Radeon. Hope ya get it working. Great card

Again it seems to have cured itself. I reckon the garage left it open slightly the rain got in drained into the interior light which is why it dripped on me the next day as well. It's rained since and theres been no problem.
Just wait until I see that witch doctor.

You have to flash a NTSC BIOS to the card when you want to use that standard.

So you can't use both NTSC and PAL...
but is it possible to get PAL60 then?
                          Otherwise it really sucks.
How can I watch my region 1 DVDs, if I don't have access to NTSC, without stuttering?

In the newer FlashRadeon versions you can check a thing called "enable unsupported standards" (or something similar) and in this list you can select PAL60 - but I didn't try it (neither did I try NTSC for that matter).

And as it seems unfortunately you have to flash to the respective BIOS before being able to use that standard.

I just wanted to say that I have tried the Radeon, and compared it to my Matrox card. There is NO NO NO comparison for using this thing for graphics. MAtrox blows the ATI card out of the water and lands it on the moon.

I am going to use my Matrox G400 MAX forever, even if they never make another card again.

I wish computers had 2 AGP slots. One for gaming and one for doing work. Moniters with dual inputs and computers woth dual AGP slots, drool.
