  • I finally got my ATI AIW 7500!! 1st Prob!

Looking at my sig, my monitor would flash on and off after I installed the 7500 on my system. It didn't do that with my MX400. Anyone have information why it does that? When the display disappears, it doesn't display ANYTHING. It happens even while I am booting up.
I have a temporary work around in place already. So far, I can borrow my roommates monitor cable he got with Panasonic S70 monitor and it works fine! Is it the ferrite core on my monitor cable defective somehow? Should I send in for the free ferrite core from ATI(offer came inside the box)? I can't keep my roommates cable forever...

P.S. ATI software uninstall is sh*t. I have to manually remove registry entries to "properly uninstall" my drivers(found out the hard way). I guess I am spoiled by Matrox uninstall(and Nvidia's "borrowed" uninstaller from Matrox).

It has nothing to do with the ferrite they can't go bad... well unless exposed to extremely high levels of radiation.

Shit drivers is quite possible or just how your monitor handles the mode switching would be my guess

      Hmmm...

Thanks for the quick reply Greebe.
I guess buying a new monitor cable *might* fix the problem. Any suggestions on type/brand?
I am also curious why it works with my roommates cable but not the one that came with my monitor... Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, but shit drivers and/or the monitor not supporting mode-switching wouldn't suddenly work if you simply used another cable with the same monitor.
        Does your cable/monitor support DDC?

          Hi,
According to LG's website, the monitor does. "DDC 2B, USB (hub w/4 ports)" Sorry for the ignorance, but what does DDC stand for? As for the cable, I am currently at work and cannot find that out until later this evening.

          Link for monitor website:

Errrm, for the "what does DDC stand for" question I must confess that I have no idea...

But it's a plug-and-play standard to tell the gfx-card what resolutions/refresh rates your monitor is capable of. If your computer does not recieve this information it might select a resolution/refresh combination that is too high (or too low) for your monitors capabilities. BNC cables do not support the DDC information, as well as some D-SUB cables (I believe the pin15 is the one needed/used for DDC information).

DDC is short for Vesa DDC (Display Data Channel). It's an additional wire that is within a subD connector monitor cable, which the monitor can communicate back the the computer with it's capabilities. Not available on BNC type monitor cables.

Yes the ATi uninstall is shit and leaves tons of files behind. Tracking them all down is time consuming. It's something ATI should look into.
