So Greebe, you think it is every non-intel chipset that is at fault, not poor planning by Matrox? If that truly is the case, then there is nothing Matrox can do. What I was saying is that just doesn't jump out at me as the most logical answer.

When it comes down to the long and short of things, I'm just a little frustrated at this point, I was really hoping to get a Matrox card back in this machine.

I can understand you wishing to put an M card back in, but me thinks you should have read up on the facts beforehand.

In the process of responding to one of your posts, I think I missed the second, but I didn't delete anything. I wasn't trying to start a fight against Matrox, I love those guys, I was just curious.

Now, reading your second post I see what you are saying. I wasn't trying to badger you or say you were wrong or anything, like I said, I was just curious.

And yes I should have done some looking before I got my hopes up, but I'm the type to leap before I look.

Yep, and everytime I reinstall Nero it tells me that I cant do on the fly burns when the burner and CD is on the same cable....

            Lets tell you something funny....

            Pinnacle makes videocapture cards....

They also have a software thats supposed to "correct" PCI busses on mainbords to alow Bussmastering to work "Correctly"..........

They also have a list on wich mainboards that need this software and those who wont...
Most chipset on the market Is represented on that list both as needing the software and not.....

And represented on the list as "Bad" busmastering chipsets is:
INTEL LX, BX 810, 815, 820 when on certine Mainbords made by certine makers....
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."

Maybe the card only works on a Intel TX,VX,HX chipset

              Ontopic:

It certainly make sense when you put it in a business prespective. Probably the market demand isn't that high.
              Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
              Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
              Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

                Hey Reverend,

I just had another thought and afaik, does the Matrox TweakUtil offer switches to force busmastering on/off ... maybe it works if your mobo is fine ?

Do you have a chance to test the card before purchasingit or couldn't at least change it back when it won't work out right ?

i think you can enable/diable busmastering in the drivers.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

That's a great idea Maggi. I doubt anyone around here sells Matrox cards though. I'll have to check out Matrx's return policy and see if it would be an issue to give one a try.

I guess for a start it would be even easier to post in Matrox own tech support forum and ask if they had problems with your mainboard ...

Btw, what mobo are we talking about anyways ?

I'm on an Iwill KK266-R now. I'll head over to the Matrox tech forums and see what they have to say.
