  • Staying out of the Loop (WinXP Infinite Loop)

Don't know if this was posted yet but here it is.

But this viaarena article talks about the Infinite Loop most people have with WinXP and some troubleshooting info to solve the problem.
    Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
    Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
    Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

    To Sum Up:

    1. Use nvMax, turn on "prevent infinite loops".

    2. Avoid drivers in the range 20.00-23.99 like the plague.

    3. "Just say no!" (tm) to Fast Writes, AGP 4x, and ultra-aggressive memory timings (as well as overclocking) until you're SURE that they aren't the cause of the loops.

Of course you've got to remember it also occurs on other graphics cards. Ati, Matrox yup my G550 or G400 does it with the 5.82 drivers. No problems at all under win2k.
It's a bit like the 686b bug one solution doesn't work with another user.

TP that's interesting cause I haven't experienced any XP loops using 5.82 with the G550 or G400Max and I'm OCing out the wazoo
