  • Java2 Sdk 1.4

    Hi! How you all doing?

    My question:
After installing SDK 1.4 i removed 1.3, i can no longer open JAR files or use the java, javac command...this doesn't seem normal. So i reinstalled SDK 1.4 again but no luck. Can anyone tell me what to do now? I'm a newbie to programming. Should 1.3 be installed also?

    Please help me.
    Thanks

So basically you first installed 1.4 and then un-installed 1.3? Uh oh.

Anyways, to fix it, first try uninstalling anything Java-related (JRE, SDK, Java Plugin, web start etc...) then install the 1.4. Then set the classpath, add the bin directory to your path and it should work.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Please remember that java 1.4 is a release candidate and not a full release. This means it is full of bugs. I had a few students install it in place of 1.3 and after a bunch of problems switch to 1.3 to get their programs to rum properly.

No, but you're not supposed to uninstall Java <I>after</I> you've installed it, either.

          1. Out with old
          2. In with new

          Don't reverse the order.

Um, 1.4.0 is full release, not beta.

Cool, hadn't noticed they released the full version.
