  • Athlon Motherboards

    Hi all,

I have a question, what Athlon motherboards read the temperature off the Athlon XP's internal diode? Does the KT333 chipset have this support built in? Any help is appreciated.

I think the Fujitsu-Siemens D 1289 does this - at least it has some form of thermal management.

Note though, that it is quite hard to come by, a little more expensive than other KT266 boards, still uses the old KT266 (without the "A"), and is about 5% slower than you would expect a KT266 board to be

There is at least one KT333 motherboard that reads the core temperature directly from the thermal diode - it's the A7V333 from Asus:

I don't know if the chipset supports this functionality or if Asus uses a separate monitoring chip for this purpose (like Fujitsu-Siemens does). However, the Asus board should be easy to find (but of course it comes at the usual Asus premium price )

I do believe MSI's KT3 Ultra can do it too.

Anyone know if the Epox 8K3A(+) reads from the diode as well?

Yes it should, since it has the W83697HF onboard.

I have the EPoX 8K3A myself and from it's documentation it is not quite clear if it uses the Athlons thermal diode or not. But since the CPU-temperature is reported 10-15° higher than it was with the 8KHA at the same speed/VCore (and at the same temerature of the cooler), I'm quite sure it does use it.
