Wombat, the two cards I compared were a winfast geforce 3 ti 200 retail, and 8500 le. The sharpness of the ti 200 wasn't to bad.
But if you look at the two side by side playing a game with nice texture/detail, I find that the ti just looks washed out and faded.

the "vibrance" of the colour is almost g400 like on the 8500...

how did the gainward one look colourwise and contrast wise?.

Good buy on the Radeon, been using one from late november/early december.. Only had some problems with the MOHAA omega beach where i thought that the drivers were lagging the game down, but im guessing its does with every card out there.

Everything else running great on XP. Those 6043's are pretty solid drivers, you wont get any performance gain with the 6052's, but with those there were some bugfixes that helped with people using etc Maya. But since i dont use that [ atleast not yet ] dont need to upgrade drivers. But get atleast the 43's if using XP since those get a good boost in OpenGL.

So no problems with the drivers for me, just plain FAAAAAST with good pic quality.. and yes, Radeons are a STEAL right now.

Yeah, the Winfast cards don't look very good.

With the Gainward, my 2D desktop looks quite good. Colors are right. In 3D, it may not be Matrox's VCQ, but it doesn't look washed out.

I will note that I changed brightness/contrast on my monitor, but I used the provided monitor calibration tool, and it got my Ti and G420 paired up well.

The issue with the Radeons is that the "old style" cards (up to and including the 7500) have SERIOUS compatibility issues with VIA chipsets.

One particular problem is that no matter what you do, under Win2k and WinXP you will get infinite loops and lockups from the Radeon with a VIA 694 chipset (which I have). Yay!

Why isn“t anyone talking about the Geforce4 Ti 4200? It should start selling next month for less than $200.
