Do you not have the space for full range fronts? - i.e.: 7NT or 9NT?

1NT's may have a full range on paper, but the bass is not going to be as clear and powerful as they would on a 3-way speaker system like the 7NT or 9NT. When the bass hits on my 9NT's, the house shakes. It's not as good as a true subwoofer, but it's very nice sounding for not having one. With something like the 1NT's you'll miss a lot of the deep, heavy bass. If you get a good subwoofer right off the bat, it will sound comperable to the 7/9NT's...as long as you can find a good place for the subwoofer in your room.

did you read my list on page 4??? got a rough idea on the price tag on a speaker system like that?...KvH
what do you think???
the price of that setup will affect the quality of the avr that i get initially(..upgrade later after the condo/house move).
80% of this systems useage will be watching tv/dvd titles...i want the best possible sound at the lower volume levels(...one downside to apartment living). occasionally i like classical music and am talk radio. i do plan on some video editing after things settle down abit
and if i swapped out the 2 cdm 1nt w/stands for two 7/9 nts...hmmmmm, that sound doable.
question...do 2 9NTs' = no need for a subwoofer?
that dealer that is in town, audio visions, i've had dealings with them a long time ago(..'94~'95) when i bought a set of ar-something for computers, it was a negative experience. one went bad after the store warranty expired and i had to go through them to get them to get them fixed. they lost the speakers, then acted confused as to whos' fault it was...then tried to sell me a pair of bose and on and on and on. it took 60 days to make everything right. after 3 weeks i stopped going to the store and told them to call me when everything was ready...i can't believe i might be dealing with these people again...hopefully they are under new management!!
Actually, at the risk of confusing you, The CDM1NTs would be fine for your front channels if you get a GOOD powered subwoofer (Just get the Velodyne SPL1200. Don't argue. ) Do NOT be so cheap about the center channel!!!!!! If you are getting the CDM1NTs, get the CDM Center. The Center channel is the MOST important speaker when listening to a movie. Why do you try and make things so hard? The speaker manufacturer matched everything up for you. K.I.S.S.!!
Jammrock is right about the CDM9NTs, but ONLY if you are willing to plunk down another grand on an amp. And no, they won't do for a subwoofer at all, but they will produce very tight clean bass a bit lower than the CDM1NTs will.
did you read my listing? the lcr60 s3 is the center channel speaker and the as1 would be the subwoofer. it may sound odd to you, but i want all speakers to from the same vendor...and i really like the b&w speakers, and haven't even listened to any.
as far as cheap...we all have budgets...YES? do you have a $6000 tv? the time frame in which i want to be done "putting" this setup together is fast approaching. i need to be done with this so that i can get saving for my new digs.
i do have to ask a question to this thread...DON"T YELL AT ME...!! here goes - what is the big "hardon" against sony??? is it only because they are sold in the bestbuys', circut citys' and discount stores of the world? feature for feature i don't see a whole lot of differences. BTW the mid to high end sony stuff is not available through the discount chains of the world...at least where i live.
KvH, i spent more time on b&ws' website...give me some prices(..rough) those nautilus 800s' aren't for home theater...right?
the lcr60 is a 600 series speaker. the cdm cnt is matched to the nts. the asw4000 is $3000. the spl1200 is $1200. The subwoofer is not as essential to match as the full range parts of the speaker system. Your questions on Sony can be answered by your own experience if you so desire. The Nautilus series is very expensive and they work fine for home theater.
Chucky, i think you should just do a LOT of reading. You are asking all sorts of really really basic questions here. Go to the AV Science Forums and just READ.
CC, the reason people do not like Sony on the forums is because they have sarificed quality of sound for profit margin and cheap gimmicks. They may have all of the nifty features and specs of other receivers, but their sound quality is not as good when compared against receivers from people like Yamaha, HK, Integra, Rotel and Denon. Put a Sony and Yamaha next to each other and the Yamaha will sound nicer. Sony USED to be one of the better out there, but now they slap together whatever makes them the most bank $$$$$ Sony TV's and video equipment is still very good quality, though.
Listen to KvH, go do some reasearch, and listen around at your local A/V dealer. Then compare it to the stuff you at the mega-stores like Circuit City and Best Buy. I think you'll finally realize what we are all talking about.

Indiana I think you mean matching the impedance, amp and speakers right?
Sorry, somehow lost this thread. Yes, this is one of the things I mean. The other one has to do with personal preferences, not all even high-end amps are sounding equal, some are a bit more "warm"/"fuzzy", some a bit more "harsh"/"cold" - similar is true for speakers - some have a bit more bass, some are very clean. They do have different "musical orientations" (don't know how to describe it better). If you match a more "warm" sounding amp with a "warm"/ "strong bass" speaker you might not be happy with the "thick" sound.
On the other hand combine a very "cold"-sounding amp with one of these very "analytical" speakers, you might get the impession of the resulting sound being too "thin".
(Yes I know that idealistically the speakers should produce a flat line and the amp should do as well - thus it should not matter. But there are subtle and even quite noticeable differences in the sound charateristics even with high end components).
