  • Can I migrate my raid setup from one mobo to another?

Howdy all. I am in the process of changing out motherboards right now, and something hit me. Am I going to be able to just move the raid setup over? Will it work if I make sure all the raid settings are correct before I plug in the drives?

I am replacing a KK-266 r mobo with a KK-266 r+. The new one uses the same raid controller as the old one. I am using raid 0 on this setup.

Well, I got anxious. I got bored and switched out the mainboard, so far everything seems to be working just fine. I'm not really concerned with long term effects of this, as this is the first step in a fresh format for everything.

If it's Promise->Promise then yeah, should be no problem. Same with Highpoint->Highpoint. Just make sure the RAID BIOS is set up the same way.

I have one set of Fasttrak drives that have been moved between 4 different mainboards. Just make sure the cable and port connections stay the same.

Actually, Promise controllers in particular are pretty smart. I don't even think it matters much which port/cable your drives are on. I've moved my array around every which way, and it always finds it.

For best results it's best to keep them in the same position on the cable and on the same port.

That way the master/slave relationship as stored in the drives (this is where the RAID setups are stored, not in the cards BIOS) is preserved.

This holds for the FT33, 66, 100 and TX2. On the TX4 it doesn't matter as all connections are masters. More and more of their cards will have this configuration.
