I'm assuming you are not using ICS etc.

File and Printer Sharing must be enabled.

in the following 1 is your machine and 2 is the remote machine running ZA.

on 2 you must add the IP off 1 into the trusted zone and set the trusted zone security to medium.

To add a single IP address :
(the IP from 1 is added on 2's trusted zone.)

    1. Go to the Zones tab in the Firewall panel.
    2. Click the Add button, and select IP address from the shortcut menu. This will open the Add IP Address dialog box.
    3. Type the IP address and a description in the boxes provided, then click OK or Apply.

This way a program on 1 will be able to acces shared resources on 2.

The Internet Zone security setting remains at the HIGH level.

if you are using a Virtual Private Network with encryption etc. then it's another matter . .then you have to add protocols etc.

I don't know how to do this in Sygate ... only uses ZA

However .. I must admit ... I have never done this on a remote network only on a Local Network.

Sygate is decent as well but when i used it my pings keep shooting up down highest it goes is 50 but with Kerio i don't get this.
      Odd.

I've run Zonealarm for a year or so now, on my old AMD K6III/475 pc as well as my current rig, and I've never been able to attribute any latency whatsoever to Zonealarm when using simple pings, IE, telnet or gaming with Half-Life TFC.
      Athlon XP-64/3200, 1gb PC3200, 512mb Radeon X1950Pro AGP, Dell 2005fwp, Logitech G5, IBM model M.
