Be careful. When you're overburning, you're not only seeing how far you can push your CD-Rs, but also your CD-R drive.

www.cdmediaworld.com, and you should be able to find out the max capacity for the CD-Rs you are using.
Audio cds in the 74-80 minute range are not strange, they are exceptionally common :-) 80min = 700meg cd.

Occasionally, I think I have seen a audio cd a couple of minutes longer than 80min, but not often, and never anywhere near 100meg longer than 80min.

But I've got the high-end SCSI Plextor and I understand that they're about the best. I am concerned about pushing to the max and then someday losing my drive. I might have a hard time trying to find a replacement that could still read the media. I think I'll just go through the extra steps in further compressing the data.

I know of such sites but I was just being lazy and trying to be spoon fed from the local experts. I'll check it out.

SVCD ISO's and data commonly exceed 720-750 MB when stored on a HDD. Certain CD formats record the data is a slightly compressed way that will seem too big on the HDD, but once written to disc will fit with no problem.

Interesting ... thanks Jammy. I usually archive to Mode 2 in Joliet. I'll do some reading once I get through all of last night's MURC posts.

Yeah, I think you can burn 802MB of data or audio on an 80min CD in Mode1. SVCDs and VCDs are burned this way too. Mode1 offers no error correction though, which is why it is used for audio and VCDs/SVCDs, and not data.

Keep it coming. I'm still busy reading through the pissing contest in TCB.

                I've put 710mb or 82.25minutes on cheap no-brand 24x CDRs using Nero 5.5 and a Liteon 24x10x40 burner.

Toms Hardware Guide had a feature on burning 99minute audio CDs and reckoned it was possible on cheap 80minute media, but you'd have to scale down the recording speed to 8-12x in most cases.
