I am a viewsonic user myself and have no complains about my monitor PS775 four years and still running fine, it has high refresh rates up to 1600x1200 (rarely use it above 1280x1024 anyway). However it is from the semi-flat era and at 17" not the monitor to go with Parhelia. Sad to say most of their current range of monitors leaves much to be desired. You may have to get one of their Graphics range of monitors if you are looking for visual quality and high frequency but that range is a touch too expensive.

I agree with guys here about the cornerstone; my friend has a cornerstone. One damn heavy monitor (19") with a big butt but if you dont mind the weight, it is one of the best (if not the best ) monitor i have laid my eyes on.

    Just my 2c worth.

I have a ViewSonic a90f on one of my workstations and it's performing very nicely.

At least the ViewSonic IS performing, which is better than the Sony I bought a few months ago. It committed suicide after just 3 months.

I owned a Viewsonic PT775 for several years and it was ouststanding coupled with my Matrox Mystique, G200, and G400. I finally decided that I needed a 21" Monitor so I gave it to my Dad who still uses it to this day. The monitor is about...hmmm....shit, it's like 6 years old! Best monitor I ever had. I am really disappointed in my 21" Mistubishi. It uses Dot Pitch whre the Viewsonic use Aperature Grill. I definitely like Arperature Grill better.

I think that Viewsonic used to be great. I was looking at Viewsonic when I got my Sony. It's strange to see a company that has a ton of people saying how they loved theirs that lasted for 5+ years, but not so many kind words from people that only bought 1-3 years ago.

My next monitor will probably be a Cornerstone. My Sony works quite well, but it took a bunch of returns to get it.

Well it seems I got a good one on my first try with Iiyama. This VM Pro 451 is very nice. and if you go with Iiyama and opt for a 19" get the 451 and not the 452. The 451 is the higher end and it seems that they have consistently higher quality than the 452.

            Good luck with your choice!!!

Viewsonic used to make monitors with beautiful displays but that doesn't seem to be the case these days. I have one Viewsonnic 19" that's been working fine for a couple of years it's not that impressive.

Optiquest monitors are pretty reliableand and use Hitachi tubes.

Other than that I guess I'm one of the few who has had good luck with Sony monitors. I finally sold an old 17" and am using a Sony 24" now. I prefer the Trinitron apperature grill for the best image possible in Photoshop and other graphics software.

Thanks everyone for sharing your opinions and personal experiences so far. I know that a monitor that is one person's godsend is often another's POS. Before posting, Cornersone wasn't a consideration, but what I think I'm going to do is this: wait until there are some review of the new viewsonic up on some imaging sites, if it looks promising I'll order one along with a cornerstone p2460, and compare both side by side with my Lacie. The winner stays, the loser gets exchanged for two 19" shadow mask tubes as my lateral screens (either g90's or c650's), as long as they match asthetically (yes, I'm compulsive like that ). Sound like a good setup (nice big aperture grille in the center for graphics, two sharp shadow masks for games and text apps )? I'll toss a few pictures up for you guys in a couple of months when it's set up so you can see why I asked

one nice thing about the new vs aperture grill is supposedly you can't see the dampening wires - kind of curious about that. Besides, most companies are using mitsubishi tubes anyway, so if it comes from a quality copany, most should be about on par with each other.

I'm curious to see if the aperture grill market changes much. Sony's Trinitron patents ran out a couple months ago.

I thought their patent ran out years ago, hence the mitsubishi diamondtron???

Nope. Diamondtron tech was licensed, but Mitsubishi did their own implementation & tweaks.

I don't know if there are any AG monitors not made by either of those two companies.
