    A bit of common sense:
VIA it's a big company that surely know what an NDA is.
ID it's a big company that surely know what an NDA is.
Carmack it's in the IT since a lot of time and surely know what an NDA is.

    So:
    - ATI has given to ID and to VIA a couple of R300 under NDAs
    - Carmack and VIA showed the card at the public saying "Hey, look, this is an R300".

    LOL.
I hope there isn't anyone that think this could really happen.
Sat on a pile of deads, I enjoy my oysters.

There you go again... First of all...

The R300 that was in VIA's booth was taken by ATI as soon as they found out that it was "out in the open" to everyone to take PICTURES of it... ATI gave it to VIA so they could demo AGP 8X. That same VIA's booth computer was running Asus GF2 the next day [ and funny thing is that that GF2 crashed during demos, but R300 didnt ].

AND, neither .. NOT VIA OR JC EVER SAID IT WAS R300. They referred it as "nextgen ATI" [JC] or "AGP 8X capable ATI-card" [VIA].

So, next time.. try to keep to the truth and dont make up stuff just to prove your point.

Oh, and that Doom3 demo SURE was running on R300, you actually could call that R250 Radeon 8500Ultra.. its a mainstream/value product, replacing R200 when R300 is released.

Its ~ fast as 8500's so it coudnt run Doom on that kind of detail [ not saying that its exactly the same performance than 8500's, but we arent talking about HUGE performance increases like on R300 ].

Looks like the ATI's R300 powered cards will be anounced pretty soon since ATI is the main sponsor of the next Quakecon event, held in mesquite texas in august(15th to the 18th)....

All the machines there will be using ATI R300 cards and they expect up to 3000 people will be participating in the event and there's 100 000$ in total prize money up for grabs...
              note to self...

I don't care what ATI has to offer! I've tried thier products several times in the past (and have one of their TV Tuner Cards in my backup system now). I "say no to ATI" now! (the hardware isn't bad it's just that the drivers suxors - that means the hardware makes a great "paper weight")

I want another Matrox card. I still keep the G400Max, though I don't use it anymore. Eventually Nvidia will come out with a card that is superior to the R300. But if I get a Parhelia I won't even notice. Nuff Said!!

We'll see what happens with ATI's drivers, at least for Linux.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Well as far as windows drivers goes,ATI is really getting on the ball, since i tried a radeon 8500 128 meg for a couple of weeks and had nothing but a good experience with the card....

So i'm hopefull about the R300,even more since they obviously have evaluation samples for some time now,so drivers should be at least in half decent shape once the card becomes available....

Greeb, maybe where you live, but thats the way i like to write it. If you pronounce it "finnish style", it sounds exactly like Homer@Simpsons.

I can't remember which dictionary it's been incorporated into but it has been and it's spelt "Doh"!... since Homer speaks english then don't convert to how Fins manage phonics

Not to get you all up into a bind but heed what I say.
