  • WinAmp 3 RC2

WinAmp 3 is almost ready for primetime. Just downloaded it, and have been playing with it for a couple of hours. Very nice player, but I *HIGHLY* recommend *NOT* installing the MAD plug-in, as it *WILL* drive you mad trying to figure it out

The new Winamp Player offers the best of everything, bringing your streaming services, podcasts, radio stations, audio books and downloads together. Enjoy all your music in one place, and customize your listening experience with the legendary Winamp Player.

WinAmp 3 also does video, has a nice playlist editor and lot of other fun toyz. The new skins and skin editor are very cool too.

PS - If you have any other beta of WinAmp3 installed, you must uninstall them first. If you don't you'll have lots of issues. Don't know about other versions of WinAmp.

The MAD interface stinks. The default skin is the standard WinAmp fare and easy to use. Right click ont he WinAmp window, select Skins and switch to the default.

We used to call Microsoft Active Directory MAD in the early days (I still do).

          *ahem*

I know I always come across as the resident curmudgeon, but this time it's warranted.

          WinAmp 3 _SUCKS_.

It has sucked since the first alpha, and still does.

90% of what I want in an MP3 player it fails miserably, the other 10% it only does tolerably well.

There are so many problems with this player that I won't even list them.

Winamp 2.xx is great. They should have stayed with that.

must be some strange day today: i agree with Gurm
it is overloaded and the interface (no matter what skin) feels uncomfortable. i havent checked any other things because i wiped it after a few minutes

            winamp 2.xx + Nucleo_NLog is all i need

Yeah, nlog is a nice skin, although most buttons need to be improved for better usability

Winamp 2.xx is OK, but winamp 3 has some great features, for example the database explorer, and the media library, and having multiple playlists.

It needs to improve on speed, and needs to be refined, of course. The open approach with Wasabi is much more powerful than Winamp 2 though, and clearly a step in the right direction!

I like the new winamp 3, yes it is still really buggy (haven't tried RC2 yet), but there are a bunch of features that I have found incredibly useful just like az. Also there are a good amount of really cool skins out there(corneramp for one), crossfader is nice, and I like anything that uses XML for data storage

Recent Winamp2 builds have Crossfader. There are lots of skins for that, as well.

XML is bulky for an app this tiny. The POINT is that it's supposed to be lightweight, whereas this new direction of the code (Wasabi) is the OPPOSITE of light.

Winamp sux. Never could stand its interface. Won't even bother downloading it. There are no good mp3 players around since sonique stopped development.

winamp is the only mp3 player i've found tolerable. I'm downloading winamp3 right now.. i'm on 56k so i should have it by next year sometime. but don't think i don't have all my winamp downloads in a folder so i can get them back if needed

                      Why IS IT SOOOOOO SLOW?

The skins for winamp 2 are just skins, the ones 3 can change the shape of winamp. Anyways, they'll still have winamp 2 up for download even when 3 is the only one being developed.

Denty, I'm the opposite - couldn't stand Sonique at all.

I liked NAD and Sonique because for one thing there was no break between songs in a playlist. Winamp has never done that properly.

Winamp3 crossfades songs, which is nice.

I just tried this release candidate, and ... well ... it's MUCH better. But still buggy as hell. The memory footprint is HUGE (20 Megs at times!), the skins are buggy (many don't work with this new version, and even those that do are a crapshoot at best), and there are a number of other problems outstanding.

Its video support looks VERY promising but at the moment is too buggy to even consider using it.

Basically it is coming along. It's not UTTER crap anymore, just a buggy beta. NOT a release candidate, despite what they call it.

If the skins at least worked, it would not be so bad. It could at least fool Joe and Jane user into think it is better with the higher number. I see no advantages to the person who downloads it. Though I do like it better than Freeamp, DBPoweramp, and Sonique. I understand people like to change the appearance and function of things, but he skinning part itself must work for this to be worth anything.
