Just installed my new Maxtors... Two 40 GB fluid-bearing D740Xs. So far I'm a happy man, the drives seem to be quite speedy, silent and run very cool compared to my old ATA/66 Seagate Barracudas. The only thing that scares me is the washboard sound when I power off and the heads are parked, but that (or at least a clicking noise) is normal, I hear.

The same here, on my Maxtor D740X - 80 GB, fluid bearing. Just a clicking noise at parking the heads.
