It can be slower, depending on a number of factors including fragmentation on the FAT partition. But yeah, it's speedy.

By this he means "fast as lightning"

I just did this to my mirror array containing about 40gigs on a 60 gig drive.
I was amazed at how fast it was and so will you be.
    Works great, totaly painless.

    Easy as pie:

    convert d: /fs:ntfs

It might ask you to reboot, at which point it will do it before loading the GUI. But it works, is safe, and seldom has problems... oh, and it's relatively quick too.

If you're REALLY paranoid, have Partition Magic do it. I'd DEFINITELY recommend PM if you intend to go the other way.

started a topic can I convert FAT32 to NTFS easily?

can I convert FAT32 to NTFS easily?

I am using winXP for 6mos, I have two FAT32 drives, Drive c and Drive d

Can I convert Drive D to NTFS while it contains data, or do I need to delete it all and reformat it NTFS?

Can I keep the primary drive C as FAT32 and drive D NTFS?

Is there a program which will convert on the fly keeping all data intact?

I am trying in this way because I heard NTFS had advantages over FAT32, but some windows programs would be incompatible with NTFS? So I figured if I did the second drive first as NTFS I 'll be able to ease into converting the primary afterward...

    thank you
Working...
