  • Direct X thing.....

    Check my sig for system specs;

    now, when I check my direct X properties, it says I have D3D version 7, but direct draw etc. are all 8. Is this because I only have a GF2, or is something wrong?

    Thanks

    Shouldn't be a problem.

    What software/utility shows this? In DirectX 8, some components were combined into a new DLL. To maintain legacy support for now, they included some DLLs with the old names that either function on their own or pass through the newer files. That may be why you are getting the different versions. Older programs may not understand what is going on and give the differing numbers. D3D, for example now has:

    4.08.01.0881 d3d8.dll and d3dim700.dll
    4.07.00.0700 d3dramp.dll and d3dim.dll
    4.06.02.0436 d3drm.dll, d3dxof.dll, and d3dpmesh.dll

    DX7 even had parts of DX6. They are after all based on one another.

      HighJ.........

      The Gainward utility EXPERTOOL direct X information tab shows it. However, I went and checked the MS DX diagnostic and found all the files you listed, and it says "no problems". Thanks for the info on all the legacy bits and pieces in there. Makes sense. Everything seems to be working fine, regardless.

        What was bad one time though is that I sat down at a machine once an tried to run a acompatability test, it failed and I found at that it had parts of DX3, DX5, and DX6. In this case, it was bad. DX6 did not have parts of DX3.
