  • Problem with plextor drive any help?

I have a plextor 40x cd-rw, my question is when anything is accessing that drive my system comes to an almost halt. Never had this problem before, just started happening. I have an Amd 760 MPX+ chipsetset on the MSI K7D-Master with dual AMD 2000+MP 2 gig ram, any ideas why this happens?

If it just "started happening", it is either:

    1. Defective drive.
    2. System/driver update that you aren't 100% aware of.

If it's 1, get the drive RMA'd. If it's 2, do a system rollback. If you're running XP, you can set a system restore point now, then roll it back to one a couple days ago, and if it doesn't help roll it back to now.

Check DMA is enabled; is you HD on the same channel as the Plex?

Hard drive are SCSI has nothing to do with IDE, DMA is on. Drive just bad, just tried burning a disk it fails everytime if I try 40x, but works fine at 10x and below Drive is dead(for the most part).

Oh well, if you're sure it's dead just ring Plex support & have them RMA it.

Try detaching and reattaching the drive cables. I've seen some drives that had this kind of problem fixed this way (could be dust or any other kind of dirt on the connectors.
