  • Help please!!!

I friend of mine just got a new CPU and Mobo today, it is a MSI 745 Ultra, Athlon XP 1700+ and 256 MB PC-266 RAM.
Now when he turns on the comp, a warning tone comes and the screen looks like a heavily corrupted MSI logo.
He said he might have damaged his CPU when installing the cooler, but I think more of a mainboard mailfunction.
I hope you have any ideas, thanks!

The card was sitting correct, I will try another vid card later.
The code is a fast continues beeping, almost sounds like somekind of alert.

Depends on the bios, different beep codes mean different things, check out the home page of the bios maker.

Usually it means faulty ram or video card. (of course the mobo or chip could be DOA as well).

Try the other video card, and check the ram out too...

        Good luck

That sound could be many things... Fan alarm most likely. Anywho upon hearing the sound press "F1" and enter cmos from there... the garbled screen you see is the default slash screen MSI uses which is turned off in Advanced BIOS Features section (second page/second item: disable).

If no fan is connected to the fan header (nearst the CPU, upper right hand corner) you can either install a tach out compatable fan to fix or disable in CMOS via PC Health Status page second item from top.

            Also:
Dont forget to use the diagnostic cable!
IE the bracket with two usb and 4 diodes that you did'nt think was nesessary ;-)
It is a bit more informative than the blink kodes!

First I want to thank you all!
Greebe was right, I used a 3-to-4 pin adapter to connect the cpu cooler with the PSU, so nothing was connected on the motherboard, didn't knew that the comp is going on battlestations then
And next time I will have a closer look on those diodes at the USB thing

The board in question will also scream blody murder if the fan is to low RPM'ed!

"The CPU fan has Failed, do you want to shutdown? [Y/N]"

Happened to me erlier wich explains the sudden and strange reboots on this customers computer

                BTW:
If the blink codes say that something is broken, its not nessesary true, it has to many times been the test just before.... (the tests is run in que and the somethimes it displayes the code for the test next in line when a previous test has failed, Am I making any sens or not )
