  • KG7 and GF4 Ti owners-- PLEASE HELP!

For anyone with a KG-7 and GeForce4 Ti card, I really could use your help in anticipation of a class action lawsuit against Abit.

Please set the BIOS for AGP 4x and run the Meshuggah Demo. The Meshuggah Demo can be downloaded here:

(The Meshuggah demo tests DX8.1 features of your video card - it's really cool - for more info look here: http://meshuggah.4fo.de/#Introduction )

There is a problem with the KG-7 mobo and GeForce4 Ti cards running at agp 4x. Various polygons and/or rays pop up for a split second on certain apps. It is very evident on the "soft object" scene of the Meshuggah demo:

On these scene, you will see various rays pop up for a split second from the object to the edge of the screen. The rays do not appear if you bump down to 2x mode.

Prior to commencing a class action lawsuit against Abit, I would like feedback from fellow KG-7/GF4 Ti owners to see if the problem is universal (so far I've confirmed with one other user who has a similar set up to me that the problem is not due to my board).

Regardless of whether you encounter the problem, please advise me of the following:

    Mobo BIOS version,
    NVIDIA Driver version
    Operating System and version
    AMD miniport driver version
For win2K users, whether you have installed the win2K registry patch.

    Thank you all,

I wouldn't jump the gun yet as it could your motherboard bios versionor the drivers you're using for your videocard. The producer of your card might duff as well. It could also be the demo thats shit.
I'll download at work next week and try it at home and see what my setup does. If I do that and get the same result you can then say it's not a Abit gfarce combo.

Yes, I admit that I haven't tried the latest BIOS for the mobo but Abit's ftp has been down. Nevertheless, there is no mention in any of the later BIOS revisions for any modifications to AGP.

I'm currently using the latest NVIDIA ref. drivers (although the problem has been with every driver release I've tried to date). I have Win2K with AMD's registry fix in place.

The Abit KG7 is a festering POS...I could never get it to run WinXP for more then a week before it fragged the Registry and wouldnt boot up again. I got rid of it last month with my current Asus A7S333 and I'm convisened never to buy a Via based chipset again.
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Thanks for the feedback gang. I think rather than a class action I'll just say "f - you" to Abit by never buying one of their boards again.

Still, I'm interested to know if anyone else has the problem.

                Thanks again!

Tried it runs fine on my combo. Try one or two other programs like GLaccess and see how that runs. Otherwise just leave bunged at AGp x2 as you be missing much.

                      The PIT,

Thanks, I really do appreciate your testing it out on your rig. Yeah, I'm just leaving the sucker at AGP 2x since I personally can't see a performance difference in any of the demos & benchmarks that I, uh, "play" :P

Games?? Who the heck has time for games??!?

Go on our helpdesk because the students are away and it's fairly quiet. You can start UT and you're just about to win and the phone will go.
