    Cheap and chearful socket A mobo?

    Hiya guys,

    I’ve got a mate who wants to upgrade his old celly400 and he’s as tight as a duck’s a*se!

    I’m looking for a cheap, socket A mobo with no audio/video etc… preferably with DDR. When I buy for myself, I usually only look at Asus, Abit and more recently Epox. Can anyone recommend something cheap and cheerful???

    All of the SiS745 based boards are cheap i.e. £50 - £65, models to look for are ECS K7S6A, Asus A7S333 & MSI 745Ultra.
    When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.

        Best SIS 745 Chipset MB out atm is the MSI 745 Ultra (see sig, many OC features) cost ~$65

          How low can the MSI 745 Ultra go on the Vcore for the CPU ? I have an unlocked Athlon 1200 begging to be underclocked and undervolted and my Soltek SL-75KAV won't go below 1.5v which is far above what I'd want to run at.

            I bought him an MSI 745 Ultra, an XP1800, 512MB PC2700, and an ATI 8500LE. All for £350

                Well that I'm not sure of, but I have made two different voltage mods to mine. One is to increase it above 1.85v (bios limitation) and another which prevents the regulator Over Voltage Protection (OVP) circuit from kicking in at 2.05v. I don't see why it can't be modified to go lower dispite the fact that this would be one of the least asked for features.

                  Oh forgot one thing to be aware of... many do not use the latest BIOS v1.4 I'd suggest using v1.3 only

                    1.5 is out. But I haven't upgraded yet.
                    Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

                          The reason I got interested in undervolting is because of heat/noise issues, initially this article caught my eye.

                          What I'm looking to do is run the Athlon at 866-933 at some very low voltage, like 1.0v or so. The Soltek board I have won't allow me to go under 1.5 volts.

                              Asus A7S333 (SiS745) is cheap.
                              eBuyer.com has it for about £50.

                              And I'm sure everyone's been telling you VIA is problematic.
