Seriously, I think SATA is good. My main gripe with current parallel ATA is the ribbon cable is difficult to route anywhere, and take up a lot of space, esp. when you have many drives.
I have one question perhaps somewhat could answer. What is the max cable length for SATA compared to ATA?

Now that I've had real time to read the article.
Max cable length for SATA is 1 meter.
Everything "should be recognizable by 98SE and on.
Hot pluggable. Page 6 shows pictures of the adapters with male and femal ports. Could they possibly be daisy chainable? CHecking for more info,
Poo to that! did someone say more expensive and no faster? when did Microsoft get in on the hardware act? hee hee, har har, ooh I'm funny
no, seriously, I keep hearing you raving about longer cables and no more ribbons, but you can get round IDE cables for the parallel system we use now, it's evolution, not revolution, frankly, being a bitter end user, I shall employ my 10' Barge Pole<small>TM</small> until I can get a decent capacity SCSI 160 drive for less than the cost of a car
sorry, that was an utterly pointless post. That'll be 2cents thanks!
Hey, don't blame me. Someone else said "Highpoint", which is a 9-letter swear word.

So I guess that you (Gurm) has a personal horror story about Highpoint?

No matter how round you make the IDE cables, they are still bulky, clunky and downright ugly plugged into the HDD. The connector into the HDD is horribly too big and the second connector with the crappy bend in it, stick outs and makes it tough to route it. No matter how you look at it, the new cables are more efficient in speed, size, and shape.

Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
I for one look forward to serial ATA, I HATE IDE cables, they just get in the way of everything, Even if the cable was the only change, I would prob still get it. *laughs*

Gurm has a personal horror story about almost every piece of hardware there is! He's like that 75 year old World War II vet that loves telling his old war stories.

and yes, highpoint is the scum of ATA controllers, only beaten by CMD controllers.
