Which Monitor?

My trusty monitor of 11 years is dying and I need a replacement.

So far I have the possibles down to the following list. Any comments pro or con would be welcome, as well as other recommendations (although I've considered a *lot* of monitors lately )

I'd go with NEC/Mitsubishi 19" SB (on my upgrade list)

For further info dig up Sonic Death Monkey's thread "NDA stuff" in arstechnica's forum. One guy reviewed 21"SB in another thread there and seems satisfied too.

Consider this
1×17" = .79 Mpix
2×17" = 1.57 Mpix
1×19" = 1.23 Mpix (1280×960 - more useful than 1280×1024)
2×19" = 2.46 Mpix

You might get more benefit from 2 17s than single 19.
2 17s cost little more than single 19, 2 19s cost about as much as single 21.

And to no suprise of many here, I'll reccommend Cornerstone monitors everytime. This is a first rate company who truely cares about customer satisfaction, quality and service.

Check out Iiyama aswell. They make some excellent screens at good prices.

I'm on the edge of buying an Iiyama VMPro 454 myself. I tried the UK reseller for Cornerstone Monitors - No prices on the website, and their phone system circulated me from hold music back to the main reception number three times before I got fed up and decided not to bother giving them any money.

My current Iiyama VMPro 410 is a fantastic monitor, my only gripe with it is that it doesnt have a single push button for swapping between BNC or DSUB inputs, which is handy if you have more PCs than monitors or KVMs!

EDIT : Just sent the order. £291 inc delivery and VAT from SCAN as a today only special. Also available from EBuyer for about the same price all the time, but their returns department are absolutely terrible.

DON'T buy an Iiyama VM Pro 452 (MA901U). I've got one

My 4 1/2 years old Iiyama Vision Master Pro 17 (MF-9017T) on the other hand is a very good monitor. Iiyama customer support is great, AFAIK

iiyama seem to have poor electronics and the settings seem to drift. During the last hour after gaming for several hours etc my screen has shifted 4mm to the left. Also pin cushion and other controls tend to drift as well. Otherwise the picture quality is good and text is readable at 2048 x 1548.
As for cornerstone forget it if you live in the UK as the offical distributers only sell to companies and charge a very large price. Luckily Holerith doesn't live in the UK. Perhaps it's something that Cornerstone should look into.

What about the 17" LG 795FT Plus? I am also looking for a new monitor, because my POS Fujitsu screen is really bad
I just checked Mindfactory and the LG one is pretty cheap, almost cheaper than the Belinea screens (which are usually inexpensive). Is the LG monitor good, or are there any problems with it?

TP, this kind of behaviour is normal, because the tube has to heat up. Four millimeters is a bit much, though.

Ilyama are rather hard to find around here. I rather like Cornerstone's monitors too but I'm not willing to pay over $1000 for a 19" crt. For that kind of money I'd get a 22" NEC or 18" LCD. 8)

I have to ask that same question, because the 21" Cornerstone C1025 that I purchased back in March of 2001 only cost me $654.52 USD and that included a 3 year advanced replacement warranty and shipping & handling. It is by far the best monitor I have ever had or seen to date. And believe I have seen and worked with quite a few different monitors throughout my 15 some odd years as a PC tech support specialist.

Someone is not looking in the right place because Conerstone has some very excellent 19" monitors that will do 1280x1024@85Hz for as little as $250.00 USD.

Not after 4 or more hours. Tomorrow I may switch on and find that the pin cushion is out of adjustment for example. I had another 19 inch iiyama and this did the same after a year and a half.

But Iiyamas have a 3 year warranty?

You're right though, it shouldn't happen after an hour anymore.
