  • HELP! ICQ 2002a invisible is not invisible

My girlfriend has a problem... When she switches her ICQ 2002a to privacy (invisible) mode, it looks as if everything is alright, but everybody sees her, just like she was normally visible. This is not only with l33t hackers, but also with normal people who wouldn't use any third-party tools, hacks or whatever to see all invisible people.

I use 2002a too, but never had that problem.

We're both on the same ADSL line, through Win98SE ICS - she is the host, and I'm the client.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

Under "Alert/Accept Modes", see what she has. She may have "visible to user" checked for everybody.

In Miranda, I'd just tick the "Never Visible to this Person" box. Is there anything ICQ does that Miranda can't?

There is a mode in which your invisible to all users, and you can tick a "visible" box for each user to let them see you even if you're "invisible". You are online, but all messages go through the server. If you send a message to someone who was not on your visible list, he will see that you are invisible, of course.

When you are invisible and you send a msg to other people, they will see you!

Also, try disconnection->invisible instead of online->invisible if that helps.

            So, is this the problem?

Sure other people will see you if you msg them. The problem is, she goes from offline to invisible, and all sorts of people start greeting her! We can't figure out why this is so (and we're both not complete computer illiterates)

Change the description from "Nurse, Female" to "Unemployed, Male" and get her a macho nick

                  How about 'Bruce'?

No, no - it's just people on her contact list, but sometimes you just don't want all those people to see you (maybe you want to do a file transfer to someone and don't want to talk to all the people on your list)

The problem is, everyone on her list sees her as online if she is invisible.
