bigger hard-drives anyone?

No one's going to build it... how would you increase the areal density from this absolute minimum? Hard drive makers need planned obsolescence too..
It's a cool idea though.. you could build a completely enclosed RAID in a single drive to combat the delicacy of data. Each platter could be a separate RAID disc..Last edited by KvHagedorn; 10 September 2002, 21:52.

a shame each drive would need a tunnelling, electron microscope, in order to read the datastill, it's a nice thought, which is what counts, right? (Tom Pabst may disagree on the 'nice thought' part)

How about the storage units of the old IBM 305 RAMAC's? They had fifty 24" platters and stored a whopping 5 MB.
I believe they only cost $35,000/year to lease back in 1957
