    I had a magazine around here somewhere that talked about the hyperthreading. From what I recall, they only ran a few tests, some had a reasonable gain (10-20% or above), while the others ran a few % slower. I'll try and find the 'zine

      The truth is that you need Hyperthreading-aware/optimised software (which I think Photoshop7 and next version of Premier do). In reality you can see about 25% gain on average... so it should be better than Athlon MPs.

      EDIT: Sorry, by "on average" I mean that to hyperthreading-aware software only. For normal applications you see only about 0%-5% gain... well if the application is heavily threaded you would see more gain.

        You don't "need" software to be multi-thread aware. However, the P4 isn't particularly good at it, and you won't really see the advantage until a processor comes out that can do it well.
        Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.
