Running them now
The ECS K7S5A + Athlon XP combination work very well, despite the motherboard being created by ECS. My old SDRAM works fine in it.
You are limited to 2 SDRAM or 2 DDR ram slots though, and no overclocking on this board.80% of people think I should be in a Mental Institute

Oh, and no SDR and DDR at the same time
But still it's a great board for its price

well the fact that I'd be able to use my old RAM is a definate plus.If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

It ought to be a cheap but worthwhile upgrade from my Duron 1ghz/Epox mobo, while still leaving me plenty in the bank for the next gen Athlon systems with 333fsb and 400DDRam.Athlon XP-64/3200, 1gb PC3200, 512mb Radeon X1950Pro AGP, Dell 2005fwp, Logitech G5, IBM model M.

Reasonably cheap solution it seems, should run me about 120$ if I use an unused in-a-box cooler that came with my brothers XP 1800 to begin with.... I'll just have to live with the noiseIf a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." My K7S5A has been my most stable and hassle-free board ever, might lack in features, but the money is spent where it counts, on stability."That's right fool! Now I'm a flying talking donkey!"

I have Asus A7V bios ver 1010 and i am able to run the newer Duron 1.2GHz even though there was no official support for the newer Duron or XP@133MHz System bus on my MB as well even though u can set it for 133/33 using dip switches. If my duron is not more than enough for my usage i would have tried running XP1600. Anyone tried running XPs on a 100MHz bus? I would love to run the XP1600 at 14x100MHz on my board.Last edited by Belwarrior; 30 September 2002, 10:24.Life is a bed of roses. Just for sharing my experience: I tried to run a XP1600+ on a A7V133 with either bios 1007 or 1008 (beta at the time) and it worked fine ONLY with windows ME. Win2k was a no-go no matter what bios/driver/settings I used. BSOD´s all the time. Just changing the cpu to my old thunderbird 900 fixed it all.
Again, it worked fine with windows ME. I don´t know about XP or even with new BIOS, but it definitly looked like a bios issue to me.
And yes, the solution was to buy a ECS K7S5A... a great system since then.
And my A7V133 with a TB 900, 384 Mb PC133 SDRAM and a KyroII still do a nice machine for wife.
