Luni, c't just tested a fanless Deltatronic 2.4 GHz system with an 80GB Seagate Barracuda ATA IV (7200 rpm), which was sitting in some kind of dampening case. Deltatronic have since improved their heatpipes. You can now use up to 2.53 GHz and a Ti4600, and up to four disks.

Oh, and their fanless PSU is a 360 W one.

Engelking has nice fanless PSUs, too.

Such a setup is expensive, though, of course.

P4 sounds quite easy do to actually, you just need the proper equipment and some ideas. i'm wondering when HDs will stop to make noise, but i think it's just impossible by design.
        no matrox, no matroxusers.

It's all possible todo with heatpipes and remote HS's to remove that heat... could be done even with XP cpu's if layed out properly

Try the Seagate Barracuda ATA IV, or better yet, the Barracuda 36ES2 (even quieter).

After you've used one of those, it's hard to complain about the amount of noise they generate

i have one (B IV) dzeus it is indeed very quite (i cant hear it outside of my case at all), but still not noiseless.
              no matrox, no matroxusers.

az hehe wasnt talking about some incredibly expensive systems who were designed around being quiet, but about what a regular murcer guy can do with his case and equpment

anyway, fanless cooling is of course possible, benchtest guy did it years ago, but I seriously doubt it can be done on modern high heat output machines without special heatpipe/watercooling mechanisms who might cost more than the rest of computer

In reality HP's are cheap as is watercooling (relatively speaking), but due to their exotic nature and gains they demand the highest prices.

It won't take long though till what is now exotic (like fans just a while ago) will become standard, and with it, cheap. It will be a necessity for future CPUs.

Shame that Banias won't be available for desktops though. Would fit many a user's need for a quiet system. Well, maybe some barebones will be available with it.
