  • What was your favorite ISA card?

I was thinking about this the other day.

My vote is the SB Awe64. It was the best sound card available before the move to PCI, and it caused the least problems. That and Creative actually seemed to be pushing limits back then!

So tell us your favorite. This should be interesting.

Well the only ISA card I used is a generic NE2000 network card, and guess what , I still use it

Erm actually that is not entirely true I had a Trident Video Card with 256kb of ram. Used to play Iceman and Monkey Island on it and ofcourse watch porn
I remember those days a VGA card was some piece of equipment. Most of my friends had EGA hercules cards or something like that.

I just retired the AWE64 in my kid's machine, to put in my old Live!
It was a good card for a long time.

But my favorite ISA was my trusty old USR 56k x2 modems (I ran 2 of them in multi-link mode). Got me through fraggin 'till wideband was available here...
                  Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

I was about to say exactly what you did, KK. I have the original 56k Sportster in my old machine, and the 56k Courier v.Everything in my main rig. Best dialup modems ever, imho.

I used to have one of those too, I thought that card destroyed my previous system. It didn't but I ended up destroying it none the less. Hehe, poor thing never had a chance.

It's odd... seems the ISA survived as long as it did after the fact because of audio and modems. I know a LOT of people that used ISA only for their hardware ISA modems.
