you got that right.. unless you can dump to a FAT32 partition, or can load DOS drivers for packet writing (does such a thing exist?).

ah i got a FAT32 partition. whats the best way to make a boot cd?
i usually get the drdos7.0 .img from bootdisk.com, inject the BIOS etc. file with winimage and burn it bootable with nero.
