Well the beta-version can be dangerous. It still has bugs, you can't import favorites from IE and I had to reinstall the beta because it refuses to load with the 6.05 installed. Not sure of the reason but now that I only have the 7 installed it works OK.

Well, I currently have 4 browsers installed (Opera 6.0.x, IE5, Netscape 6, Netscape 4.78), so I'm not about to test beta versions...
But it is great to know that the dpreview site behaves more or less properly...

VJ, you can run both opera 6.05 and Opera 7 Beta1 at the same time. So you can just give it a try, if you don't like it you can just delete it afterwards.

I guess I'll have to find out for myself if its worth it.

              Screenshots of <a href="http://www.rai.ox.ac.uk">Rothermere American Institute</a>:

              Notes:
All 4 browsers display the page legibly, the the text hover/rollovers work consistantly (not visible in a screenshot), and only Mozilla displays the little bug where the blue horizontal lines stretch to the full width of the page.

Thanks Pace. Actually the blue lines are meant to go all the way across the screen - and they did used to in the other browsers. I think that I have been a bit clumsy with the last update and moved one of the spacer gifs into the wrong place - will have to fix it this weekend! (If you look at the IE and Opera pages the links under the bottom blue line are further down than they should be.

Guess I never noticed because the page was done a long time ago and I usually jump straight to pages for proof reading...

The bug only appears on the bottom part (American studies) I see.

                  And, for fun, another browser...

                  Netscape 2.02:

Yup - it's only happening because of a spacer I have inadvertantly attached to the "Site by..." link... no idea how it got there

And no, this site was never even designed to work on anything less than ie4 or ns4 - too much CSS and JS etc.

Just out of interest, can you go to one of the pages (e.g. http://www.rai.ox.ac.uk/scholars/index.html and click on one of the CV's - this gives a popup which should have a "print" button - this is meant to be cross-browser compatible, but is still a bit of a hack... can you test it (as you're obviously bored... )

                    Cheers

Thanks - yup that grey text is a kind of "watermark" in the template. On most systems I have tested on it's fine and subtle enough - on some screens (badly adjusted ones...) it can get in the way a bit though and obscure things. Still - part of the design!

I never actually used the site with NS (actually never did anything with any of the browsers), just opened the main page.

Still impressive to see sites work without CSS/JS though

Front page should be fixed now (the blue lines/the bottom row of links). Seems we removed a page from the last section without terminating the table row properly... maybe I should stop hand-coding things now...

Oh - and yes Pace most of the site should down-grade gracefully, although not all it and it hasn't been tested fully.

Did a site once that I tested (and it worked!) in Lynx. That was only 2.5 years ago believe it or not. Bloody physics tutors that insist on still using Lynx (because it's faster....)
