What about the plans to get AMD processors in MACs ?
Plus, AMD CPUs will always be cheaper.
There aren't any plans, just rumors.
GNEP, if you haven't noticed, faster P4s throw out more heat than the latest Athlons.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.
I hadn't actually noticed that Wombat, but most desktop office PCs even when new are not going to be using the fastest CPUs. And noise is (IMHO) always going to be a bigger con than the extra speed is a pro in this environment.

The last thing we need is for AMD to go belly-up! Its bad for everyone. Also AMD and SMC are building a 300mm fab, which should be up sometime in Q1 or Q2 2004.

I got an impression that not only 3GHz+ will support HT, but even the other 533-bus CPUs like 2.4, 2.53, 2.66, 2.8GHz... Or am I completely wrong? I mean, none of those CPUs which are already produced support HT, but will Intel enable this feature in the future units?

I remember reading that only 3.06 and up will have hyperthreading. However, the older models possibly can have HT enabled through a hacked bios. (If the HT isn't physically disabled on the processor)
considering intel's experiences with SMP on the celerons, i would wager on it being physically disabled on the chips...
that being said, i could see them introducing a lower speed version of it within 3 months... just to fill out their product line...

AMD sucks.. I think we should just nuke their fab and get this monopoly thing REALLY rolling.. then we can all have $2000 processors running at 1 GHz.. then the Intel brass can all make a billion dollars a year and pay their stooges in the fabs minimum wage, because where else will they find a job? won't that be keen?

Intel will also introduce hyperthreaded 2.40GHz, 2.60GHz P4s, and 2.80GHz Pentium 4s in Q2 of next year, as well as the 3.06GHz CPU it introduced last year and a 3GHz and a 3.20GHz hyperthreaded Pentium 4. µ

Seriously....
It could be that many of the 2000 workers is those that is really close to 65+ age....

Keep dreaming Technoid. AMD was a rapidly growing company in a new field. I doubt that many of them were over 50, if the demographics of HP and Intel offered any example (then again, Intel has its own reasons for young employees - most people only stay there 5 years).

BTW:
AMD is 33 years old....
So even if "old" employes is unlikely in those proportions its not imposible....
and mayby I should have had a couple of smilies in the post to avoid you going "Gurm"

"Going Gurm" ROFL. Maybe it isn't really that funny and I am pissed (British pissed) after consuming too much alcohol. But I don't care, I'm happy, I think. I will not buy an Intel processor until they are reasonably priced once more. buy AMD now because I get more bang for the buck *hic*. Rum good, lemonade bad. *hic*
