  • Trident XP4-boy, did they ever blow it

ExtremeTech is the Web's top destination for news and analysis of emerging science and technology trends, and important software, hardware, and gadgets.

Read'em and weep, it seems that Trident managed to get GeForce2 performance levels with their new baby...now that's an achievement!

I knew it wasn't gonna be great, but not this bad!

A "DX9" card doing vertex shaders on the cpu is deceiving to say the least.

Classic case of marketing not knowing what they're talking about. Build it up too much and then end up with egg on there face or this case more of an omlet.

wasn´t this card supposed to be for laptops?
maybe the horrible performance means that it doesn´t use as much power as the competition, thus improving batteri-life.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

Maybe, but the competition is stuff like ATI's 9000 Mobility. Unlikely to win there either.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

But if it will be cheaper to implement than a Radeon 9000 mobility or GF4MX2go it could still get a share of the market...

Hmm, compare to this though: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1681&p=6
I also wonder why they tested ONLY in 1600x1200. It might just be horribly inefficient at that particular res, or something. Flawed review or flawed card? I'd say both, but we will see

I have heard of laptops that could do 1400*1050.

but I think most laptops runs at 1024*768 or 1280*1024, so it would make more sense to benchmark it at these resolutions.

                        edit: GOC I stand corrected

Yep, it's a bit small but very impressive... Not that I would strain my eyes to use that res... Would be much happier with 1280x1024 res tops on 15" screen...
