I've totally abandoned Norton, and Chkdsk doesn't find half the errors out there. After Norton Utilities 2001, they stopped replacing the boot-time chkdsk with Disk Doctor, which sucks because it would go like this:
Disk Doctor has found errors! Would you like to schedule a repair on your next reboot?
(Yes)
Chkdsk has found 0 errors.
Disk Doctor has found errors! Would you like to schedule a repair on your next reboot?
(Yes)
Chkdsk has found 0 errors.
--- Repeat, ad nauseum.
Now I use Ontrack's Easy Recovery Pro, which both fixes physical defects (well, marks them off anyway) and logical problems... as well as rescuing various types of data, etc.
