Because while clock for clock, the Hammer does well, it just doesn't have enough "clocks" for it to matter. :-(

How can you be so sure???

Back up what you are claiming with something that makes us believe that AMD in the next 6 months ain't going to get the clocks needed to be competitive.

Whatever you're saying now is just what you think is going to happen, not what is really going to happen.

Ribbit, I think the benches you saw might have been from the Opteron (AMDs high-end / server 64bit chip), while these results are from the "desktop" / home-user Athlon64.

If AMD can reach 2GHz, this surely is the chip for me.
Note also that those synthetical bechnmarks are kind of lying. I have senn many XP and P4 based systems and the AMD ones are simply faster in real world apps, unless the Intel CPUs are clocked much higher than AMDs rating. If I perform synthetical tests, yes, then the Intel are faster.
So anyone who wants high benchmarks can buy a P4, I just want a fast system, and I guess the Athlon64 will be just right for this.
But we named the *dog* Indiana...

Ummmm, you're the one jumping to conclusions here. I said that RIGHT NOW the hammer has speed clock for clock, but just too low of a clock rate. I made NO claims or forecasts in any way about what clock speed AMD will have their CPUs at.

            Here's the link: http://www.aceshardware.com/read_news.jsp?id=60000462

It just says 'Clawhammer' which if I'm not mistaken could be either the desktop (Athlon64) or low-end server (Opteron) chip.
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

Clawhammer is Athlon 64, Sledgehammer is Opteron

I agree with Indiana. If you run a single task (like video encoding), Intel is the best for you.
If you like to multitask, AMD is the way to go.
